Philip Frost and Miguel Mayana run a monthly salsa event at The Bedford in Balham which is one of my favourite venues. The main room for salsa is ideal: wooden dance floor, capacity for 250 dancers, excellent sound system, air conditioning that used to work and free parking nearby in Sainsbury for 250 cars! There is one other room devoted to kizomba and the event is called Que Rico which means to a Spanish speaking salsa dancer something like: Isn’t it wonderful! Above all the venue has a friendly atmosphere and attracts all the best dancers from miles around thus guaranteeing me my salsa fix many times over in one evening! I usually aim to arrive around 10pm for the club dancing which usually begins around 10:15.
However, the Bedford in Balham is being refurbished so Que Rico has moved to the Ibex Venue in Stockwell for 2 or 3 months. The dance floor is a lot smaller but otherwise the venue was excellent with air conditioning that works. When we move back to the Bedford in Balham we can look forward to their air conditioning working too I imagine!
