The Drift Bar in Southsea is the venue for Bailando every Thursday run by DALE Afro Latin Entertainment from 10pm to 3am. When I arrive around 10:30pm for the salsa dancing upstairs there are usually plenty of people who attended the earlier bachata lessons from 8:30 to 10pm staying on for an hour or so to practice to bachata music. Around 11pm salsa is added to the mix and people start coming up from downstairs particularly when it get crowded. Members of The Portsmouth University Salsa Club usually arrive around 11pm.
Recently salsa tracks have started earlier than 11pm and played more often which is most welcome to those of us who prefer the real thing! 😉
Sometimes there are not so many staying on from the earlier bachata lesson.
Sometimes many ladies come up later for a dance or two.
Sometimes the room empties around 11:30 and sometime people stay until much later.
This means the event is a bit of a mystery tour which makes it exciting whatever happens! It used to be a free mystery tour before 11pm – £2 after – but now it costs £2 from 10pm onwards. It’s still good value for money though!
Parking: There’s plenty of parking round the back in the Ashby Place car park.

The Easter Mystery Tour at Drift featured so many dancers tonight there’s was hardly any room to stand when I arrived. I had lots of dances – many of them excellent – particularly with Michaela, Cassandra and Andreanna with whom I had not danced in a long time – so good to see and dance with them again! Had many good salsa dances with one salsera whose name I didn’t quite catch and many with various beginners who were willing to have a go which was delightful! 🙂 ❤️
