Philip Wake There weren’t many at Slug & Lettuce Fareham but when the lesson finished I danced with as many of the ladies as I could and finished off with a superb dance with the teacher Jessica. When I left I had a chat with Michelle outside who had followed me quite well for a total beginner. Her boyfriend was having problems moving rather stiffly so I showed him the ‘waiting for a bus’ way of weight transfer but he couldn’t get it at all – his body leaning in all directions as he tried to transfer his weight from one leg to the other. Michelle turned out to be a boxer and therefore knew about weight transfer – that’s why she had followed me so well. She tried to show him too but nothing worked. I told him to keep practising with Michelle until he got it.
I went on to Drift Bar Southsea which was quite well attended. However, the floor seemed much stickier than usual which made dancing difficult – hard on the knees. I realised it was because the floor at the Slug & Lettuce was really sticky and had made my shoes sticky too. I had quite few dances which were fun but I enjoyed dancing with Michelle the most because she said her boyfriend had tried to show her how to dance but she just couldn’t do it. Her boyfriend persuaded her to dance with me when I offered to show her and I managed to get her to dance a bachata quite well after a few bars. Later I managed to get her to follow me dancing a salsa too. She said with a big smile on her face that she felt like she was really dancing and loved it. She gave me some nice hugs and kisses at the end of the dance which made my night complete so I decided it was time to leave and do my shopping at Asda Fareham on the way home! And so to bed . . .
