HUNG PARLIAMENT

There are 650 seats for MPs in the UK parliament but the 7 Sinn Fein MPs never turn up so there are really only 643 which means the actual number of MPs required to avoid a hung parliament is 322. As the Tories are projected to get 319 that means they could easily run a minority government particularly with regard to Brexit because Labour agree that Brexit must happen. However, Theresa may have to compromise on some of her policies, for example: "No deal is better than a bad deal!". She may also Read more [...]

TV Viewing Angle

If you've got a 40 inch TV and are thinking of upgrading to a 50 inch for a better wide-screen cinema effect why not just sit closer. For example, the recommended distance for viewing a 50 inch screen is 1.8m which is a viewing angle of 34 degrees but if you sit just 35cm closer to your 40 inch screen (1.45m) you will get the same result without having to spend any money! For a 32 inch screen sit 1.15m away for the same result For a 26 inch screen - sit 0.95m away for the same result I think 1.5m Read more [...]

No more heart attacks!

Going vegetarian or vegan as suggested in the video below is one way of making yourself heart attack proof but there are other solutions such as Natural Low Density Eating which is just as good and includes eating fish & meat which even caveman used to do so it can't really be that bad for you can it. I only eat tuna & sardines most of the time because they're so cheap at Asda but I sometimes have meat when my daughter Katrinah is staying with me because she's from Botswana and Batswana Read more [...]

Happy 60th Anniversary of Independence Day to Ghana & my Kente shirts!

Where would I be without my Kente shirts! Thank you Ghana - you changed my life forever! My original shirts were a present from by ex-wife after she visited Ghana to collect an African Achievers Award but they suffered a bit from wear, washing, drying & ironing so I was very pleased to find that Afrofrocks sold them online for a reasonable price! 🙂

Diary 2016-07-28 Moved just one mile down the road!

Isn't it good when a plan comes together! Today I moved a mile down the road from an end-terraced house to a studio flat. I was quite looking forward to it because the house was too big for just me and the studio flat is a lot better that the bedsit I lived in when my parents went to live in Wales many years ago. I remember entertaining my first wife-to-be there so it must have been in 1972. I remember getting a stiff letter from the landlord when he discovered from one of the other tenants that Read more [...]

Diary 2016-07-02: Road rage and the customer is always right isn’t he!

I decided to drive into Gosport to have a chat with the nice lady in David Seymour about the logistics of my impending move from house ownership to flat rental I took my usual route which avoids all the traffic lights:

Station Road
Right into Brockhurst Road
Right into Anns Hill Road
Left into Carnarvon Road
Right into Whitworrth Road becomes Gordon Road
Left in Bury Road
Left into Stoke Road becomes Walpole Street and
Park at Morrisons.

and as I was driving slowly down Read more [...]

Bread is off the menu again – the arthritis in my knees came back!

I thought it was safe to have a couple of slices of toast a day after giving up bread altogether for a year but after a few months the arthritis in my knees has come back again. This is bad news for a guy who lives for salsa dancing so I had no choice but to give up bread again and within a couple of days the arthritis in my knees has totally disappeared.  I don't know if it's the gluten or the raising agent in bread that does it to me.  If the latter I may be able to have the occasional pizza Read more [...]

Diary: Sunday 29th May 2016

After a lovely weekend in Uxbridge with my ex & Katie which featured me strimming the front garden and making it look much neater than before I drove down to the The Bedford in Balham for a dreamy night of salsa.  I took the M25/M4 route to minimize traffic and arrived at 10pm after an hour's drive just in time to miss the lessons and go straight to the social dancing as is my wont.  I had some wonderful dances which will be imprinted on my mind forever but had to leave a bit earlier than Read more [...]

The truth about fat in your diet!

"Current UK government guidelines advise cutting down on all fats and replacing saturated fat with some unsaturated fat. In recent years, the popular media has turned the debate about the causes of major public health issues such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity into something of a "fat versus sugar" dogfight. But the question should not be about choosing between fat or sugar: there are good reasons for cutting down on both."

Diary: Monday 23rd May 2016 – Sunny or Moody!

I had a pleasant walk through the Gosport Town Shopping Precinct from the Morrison's end this afternoon and ended up at the Gosport Ferry end.  I walked down the right hand side of the access pontoon and went through the sliding doors at the end on the right to the pontoon which is marked Authorised persons only so that I could have an uninterrupted view of the Solent on what was a lovely sunny day - so sunny was carrying my leather jacket instead of wearing it.  I took a picture as you can Read more [...]

“Eat fat to get thin!” is the daftest headline I’ve seen this year!

‘Eat fat to get thin’: Official diet advice is ‘disastrous’ for obesity fight, new report warns

You can read the article in the Telegraph for yourself as I’m not going to pass on the daftest advice a so called group of experts have given this century!

What really happened is that people were told to avoid fat for silly reasons – like lowering cholesterol and losing weight when the real reason to avoid fat AND sugar is to keep the calories in your food each day down to a reasonable Read more [...]

It's been a busy day but very productive having now got my new blog site www.wake.co.uk going well including the facility for people to connect via facebook for making comments and sharing on facebook & other Read more [...]

MY RIGHT ARM IS OUT TO LUNCH UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE!

Over the weekend my right arm puffed up to twice it's normal size so I resolved to see the doctor as soon as I got back to Gosport. I was lucky because he was in reception when I arrived and immediately diagnosed that my elbow had become infected as a result of the injury I receive 15 days ago when I went salsa dancing in Brighton. Had I not had it seen to it could have spread to the rest of my body and developed into septicemia which is a serious blood stream infection which can lead to death! Read more [...]

GOING SALSA DANCING CAN BE DANGEROUS!

On Sunday 27th March 2016 I discovered how dangerous going salsa dancing can be at: SALSA AT THE VIEW EASTER SALSA & BACHATA ALL DAYER . I've copied my comments on the facebook post about this event below as it would have taken a lot of embeds! Click on any "2y" to see the original comment.
