GREEN BIN WARNING!

I found a red notice on my green bin yesterday – apparently the refuse collectors couldn’t take it because there was glass in it. There wasn’t when I looked but there was a basket full of bottles near the bins so I presumed my next door neighbour must have removed them from the bin when he saw the notice. As the bin was totally full I realised that I would either have to get in it to jump up & down to compress the rubbish and hope there would be enough room for the next two weeks worth of recyclable rubbish or take the rubbish down to the Household Waste Recycling Centre which is only a mile away.
I happened to have some bin bags so I emptied my grey bin into my neighbour’s grey bin, put one of the bin bags in my grey bin and poured the rubbish from the green bin into it. Because there were loads of pizza boxes this failed half way through so I used a second bag to finish off. One of the pizza boxes fell open and I noticed there were bits of old pizza in it. I went through all the pizza boxes and emptied the bits of pizza into my neighbour’s grey bin. There was enough to make up a whole pizza! Don’t people realised they can’t put cardboard boxes in the green bin which contains rubbish that should go in the grey bin!
At the Recycling Centre there was a skip for cardboard & paper, a skip for household waste (not recycled), and a skip for bagged waste (for burning to produce electricity). Confused I put both bags in the household waste because I presumed tin cans were not flammable. As I walked away one of the helpers transferred my bags to the bagged waste skip and stared at me. We live and learn – well some of us do! Lol
