CALORIE DENSITY: 31% = 792kcal/(635ml x 4)
(For comparison sugar = 95%, butter = 180%)
.
COST: 105p (So don’t tell me that eating health food is expensive!)
.
INGREDIENTS
- Kidney Beans 240g: 266kcal (225ml) Asda SP Red Kidney Beans in Water 400g tin 23p
- Mushy Peas 300g: 276kcal (250ml) Asda SP Mushy Peas 300g tin 16p
- Tuna Chunks 112g: 130kcal (130ml) Asda SP Tuna Chunks in Brine 160g tin 59p
- Potato powder 60ml (30g): 120kcal (30ml) Asda SP Instant Mashed Potato 120g packet 28p = 7p
.
INSTRUCTIONS
- Drain the Kidney Beans and place in a large plastic container.
- Add the can of Mushy Peas after draining off the top liquid
- Drain the Tuna and add to the mixture
- Add a teaspoon of Hot Curry Powder or whatever you fancy tasting & smelling tonight (eg Garam Masala, Hot Chilli, Chilli Con Carne) and add salt & Cayenne Pepper to taste
- Mix well with a plastic spoon to avoid scratching the plastic container and microwave on 800W for 6 minutes
- Add some potato powder if the mixture is not solid enough and mix well as solid food is more satisfying. If you drained the tuna flakes well this should not be necessary but adding potato powder does increase the calorie density from 28% to 31%.
Serve on a large plate in the form of balls.

NOTES
The picture shows the whole meal on a 10 inch plate – enough for two ladies but only just enough for me! You may have noticed that my names for meals are somewhat tongue-in-cheek and this is because there is a lot of hype in conventional cook books about presentation when that is really totally up to you. What difference does it make if you serve as cakes, as a pancake or just a load of balls! It tastes the same whatever you do and fulfils the purpose of the diet which is to make you feel so satisfied with your meals that you never feel hungry while you lose weight!
