“Mr Sharma reportedly told Mr Johnson in a meeting last week that if the hospitality sector is unable to get back up and running it could cost 3.5 million jobs, prompting the PM to blurt out: ‘Christ!'”
Quoted from the article: Boris Johnson wants to slash social distancing to one metre to help kick-start the economy and save millions of jobs . . .
Imagine the result of 3.5 million jobs being lost on the 10 million people in the families of those affected in terms of stress, mental fitness and in the end physical fitness. Imagine the number of indirect deaths that could result – possibly far more than have died of Covid-19. This is why the value of lives and livelihoods must be balanced. Neither is more important than the other. Most of us are here to enjoy the benefits of a good economy with the freedom to choose what we do and what risks we take rather than being told what is good for us!
